Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
