Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
